Experience

The firm has handled numerous civil and appellate matters and in 1993 attracted national attention with the successful argument of a landmark case before the U.S. Supreme Court. J.E.B. v. Alabama began as a simple paternity case heard in the Jackson County Courthouse but eventually reached the U.S. Supreme Court as a landmark case that banned gender discrimination in jury selection nationwide.

History

After graduation from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, in 1978, John F. Porter, III served as Law Clerk to John David Snodgrass, Presiding Judge, 23rd Judicial Circuit. He then began practice with former Cherokee County Solicitor and 9th Judicial Circuit Judge, Jack Livingston. They practiced together for over 20 years. In 1996, Mr. Porter was admitted to the Tennessee Bar enabling the firm to represent clients in Tennessee as well as Alabama.
